I've recently looked at Justin Biebers song 'Where are you now' ft Skrillex. This video follows the typical conventions from the pop genre as the video solely focuses on the main artist. As you can see throughout the video the camera is on Justin while there are after effects edited on and around him. The fact that he is the focal point of the whole video makes it clear to the audience that he is the star as he is the main focus. Also this is what pop stars like to do as their popularity   Comes from their image.

The effects used in this video is something that is very effective and original. As you can see form the music video the lyrics of the songs are all around him in the video which is good as it makes the song more memorable to the audience. The fact that the editing and cuts in the video are fast paced links to how the song is meaning that the synchronicity between the song and video has been done effectively.

For my music video I can take an influence from the fact that the artist is the main focal point as in my video I will need a character for the audience to have someone to identify with. Also I can take an influence from the editing as my self as audience I found this visually interesting so I could potentially replicate some of it, for example the colour changes.

Research into similar products - Digipack Convention of back cover

Here are two music albums back cover. Usually the colour scheme on the back cover is the same to keep the continuity of the theme of the album the same. The bar code is featured on the back on an album, usually in a corner to allow the album to be scanned when bought. The track list is featured on the back so when someone wants to buy it the know what song feature on it first. The information of the produces and record label is on the back as this is not really important informant and this is also featured in small font. On the back you may see either the name of the artist or a photo of the artist. This is to remind the audience who's album's it is. On the side you can see the side bar with the artists name on it and this is for when the album is stacked on a shelf, so you can identify it easily.

Looking at these back covers had taught me what i should feature on mine when i came to create one

Research into similar products - Digipak conventions of front cover

This is the front cover of Lana Del Rey's album Born To Die. On this front cover there is only the album artist on it making her the sole focus and shows how this album is hers. The use of direct address is effective as its as if she is looking at the audience, get the audiences attention as it sends off a powerful vibe. The simplicity of the cover also helps to put focus of the star and makes the album look classy and professional, which contrasts with the fact that she is an indie artist and this make the cover interesting.

The text on the cover is large and in bold which stands out however it still doesn't distract from the the artist as the text is behind her head. The album title isn't as prominent as its in a pale blue and in a smaller font size but it is in the foreground, in front of the image of the artist.

The colour scheme of this colour is also effective as its mainly white and blue, which is simple and also help to put focus on the artist as though she is wearing a white top her hair is a contrasting colour,

After looking at this album front cover it had given me ideas on what to include on mine as the conventions used on this are effective.

Drafting and planning - Preliminary Task

For our preliminary task we got to experiment with different camera and editing techniques to create a mini sort film to help us when we come to create our main project.

The four techniques i used to film this video was match on action action, 180 degree rule, tracking and panning.

The 180 degree rule that was used during the conversation is a basic guideline regarding the           on-screen spatial relationship between a character and another character or object within a scene.
The match on action that was used in the bit where the girl opens the door and goes through it is the editing techniques where the editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shot's action.

The use of the tracking allows the audience to follow the character and the story and sets the scene and location of the action.

The panning shot introduces the surroundings which was a class room and sets the narrative on the scene.

This exercise was really helpful as it has intorduced me to all the different camera techniques and how to use them. So when i come to create my video i can reflect on what i've learnt creating this mini scene.

Research into similar products- Music video genre

This music video is an example of an RnB/Hip-Hop music video.

50 Cent - Candy Shop Ft. Olivia is a RnB/Hip Hop video that was realised back in 2005. RnB/Hip Hop is a quite similar to pop music videos as they also incorporate bright colours. Normally RnB/Hip-Hop videos are set in clubs, parties and mansions to highlight their extravagant and 'ideal' lifestyle. This is also highlighted by the excessive 'bling' and branded clothing they wear. Also in RnB/Hip-Hop videos there's usually lots of attractive women which reflects the nature of the lyrics and meaning of the song. By looking at this video and its conventions i now know what to include if i were to create this genre of music video and even if i don't i still can incorporate elements of this genre.

Research into similar products- Music genes Rock

In my previous post i said i was researching the typical conventions of genres of music video.

The Metallica; Hardwired rock song has a lot of typical traits of a rock music video. Firstly the video is in black and white with low key light which gives of a edgy element and a mysterious atmosphere. The hard fast cuts used gives of a manic sense to the video which reflects the style of the music. The mise en scene such as props also is s typical convention of a rock music video as there's electric guitars and drum kits. This is effective because rock songs feature these instruments in their songs.

By looking at this video and understanding the different conventions used i can use this to help me influence my music video.

Research into similar products - Music Video Genre

I have been looking at the different genres of music videos and their typical conventions.

This music video Side To Side by Ariana Grande Ft. Nicki Minaj is a pop music that has currently around 13 million views. This video has a lot of typical traits of a pop music video as bright and vibrant colours are used it helps the video stand out and appeal to its youthful target audience, also it makes the video look more up beat which fits the general ethos of the video. Quite a lot of pop music videos feature the stereo typical good look male and this is because most pop music is about love which appeals to the teenage audience as they're usually obsessed with this concept. synchronised dancing also appears in pop music video as this is a nice visual element and it mean the video doesn't really need a narrative as the dancing is interesting enough.

All these conventions help to make a pop music video popular and this is proven by the fact that this video has around 13 million views. So when i come to create my music video i can incorporate some of these elements to make a successful video.

Research into similar products - Genre crossover

This music video 'Little Mix - Hair' is an example of a genre crossover. The girl band Little Mix is a pop band the produces pop music normally however for this song they have collaborated with Sean Paul who is a reggae rap artist.

Due to this the genre cross over is also made clear in the music video. For the most part of the music video it follows all the typical conventions of a pop video as for example within the mise en scene the colours from the video are very bright and vibrant reflecting the music style and also the editing of the video uses fast cuts which links to the high beat tempo of the song.

When Sean Paul raps his bit the video style changes. He is seen in a big house and is wearing big gold chains which are very flashsy just like the house. He is also seen to be rapping on video message to the band in the video and while he does this is very clearly showing off his smart phone that is very recognisable to the audience. All this is what typically a rap artist would do and the fact that this is all intercut with scenes from the girl band merges the line between the two genres.

When using a song that has a genre cross over the styles must be communicated to the audience and in my opinion the was done effectively. So with my music video I can take influence from this.

This music video by Reggie 'N' Bollie is good because of the use of Mise en scene. This video has a consistent colour scheme of red, yellow and green which is the colours of the Jamaican flag and links to the song as it has a Caribbean influence. This is effective because the colours fits with the ethos of the artist as they're music has African/Jamaican influences. Also the fact that the colours are quite vibrant reflects the personality of the artists as they're very energetic people. Looking at this video has been helpful because when i come to create my own one i need to be thinking about the colour scheme i want to use and what i want the colours to reflect as having this sorted will make my video more appealing.

Here is Kanye Wests video of 'All falls down' Ft. Syleena Johnson. This Video is shot using a POV shot which is really effective. The use of this shot allows the audience to relate to what Kanye is feeling, making them have a personal attachment to the video. Also the fact this shot is used makes the audience focus of the lead female in the video, making them understand what Kanye feels for the girl. The use of this shot to keep to make the audience feel involved is something that i may want to include in my music video as it helps the audience understand the message/story of a video as they can relate to the main character.

Research into similar products - Doll house

Melanie Martinez Doll house is a music video where the use of mise en scene is used effectively throughout the video. As you can see from the video it's has a doll house theme which is shown thorugh her make up and costume as she has freckels, childlike dress which is all common traits of a toy doll. Also the set in the music video looks like a real doll house. Furthermore the artists movements in the video are timed slow movements added to the Doll house theme because as an audience you can clearly see that she is a Doll.

The reason why I liked and looked at this video is a because is feel the the conventions that were used I can take influence from for my own. From this music video it is clear to me that it is from the alternative genre as the he video on a whole is quite out there and different which is something that alternative artists like to do. As i am currently leaning towards choosing an alternative song for my music video i feel I can experiment more just like how this video has. When I come to create my music video I will be looking to use elements of mise en scene to make a clear story that my audience can understand as from Melanie Martinez ' video she is being and he life is like being a Doll house.

I have been looking into different music videos and i came across Adele's video of send my love, which i find very interesting. This video is very simplistic when it come to setting and props however the minimalism of the video is really effective as it allows the audience to focus on Adele and the songs lyrics. Though the video is simple there is some very advance editing effects used. You can see in the video that Adele is layered on top her self multiple times which is very captivating to watch holding the viewers attention. Also i like the fact that this is a one shot video, this is another way this video only focuses on the star. When i create my music video i want to have a main focus which will help the audience the message and the video.
