Research into similar products - Digipak Colour scheme

I have been looking into what colour scheme i want to use for my digipak and here is what i have found.
This is a grey scale colour pallet and the colours on this pallet is what i want to use for my digipack as this links to the 'same society' theme in my video, as everyone has conformed to the social media norm.

Although the main colours are black and white that i am wanting to use a pop of colour in the digipack image. More specifically i want to use the colour red, just like in the photo above as i think the connotations of the colour is suiting to my video message. The colours highlights dangerous, which my lead protagonist is facing with all the people following him. Also the colour placed with a dark background showcases the importance of the thing that is in colour.

Drafting and Planning - CCTV shot

For my 33rd shot in my music video i am having a cctv effect for it and i have been researching into how i am going to achieve it and what i want it to look like. In this shot it will have my main protagonist running across the shot and then you see a mask person walk in the shot, shortly after as if they was following the protagonist. I want this to reflect the fact that there is someone always watching, just like how social media - they is always someone there.

This is the type of effect i want to do for this particular shot, where you see the date and time on the screen corner. I have watched some videos on how to do it and if its a possibility for me, which it is so now i can include this in my music video.

Drafting and planning - Animatic

In my previous blog post i have completed my storyboard for my music video. Using the images from the story board i have created an animatic video along to my music video song 'Run Boy Run'.

Organisation - Completed storyboard

For the last couple of weeks i have been constantly working on my storyboard making sure i am very precised as to what i want to include in my music video. I have been posting about my progress with my story board and through the process of creating the storyboard my initial ideas for my music video has improved and changed a little bit. With my story board now complete i can now move on to filming my music video.

Drafting and planning - Runaway

In my music video i have planned to have quite a few shots of my main protagonist running. With also having a slow motion effect on these shots, i have been looking into the types of camera shots i'll be using. In Kanye Wests 2010 feature full length film below, you can see that there are some interesting shots used to capture Kanye running. In particular you can see there a shot filmed behind some trees of Kanye running through it. The use of this shot gives off a sense that he is being watched and this would be suitable for my music video as my character is. I plan to replicate something like this as this will help convey the message of the video effectively.

organisation - Location

I have been planning the different locations them i will film in and in each location i have specific requirement, in order for it to be suitable for my music video.

- Small classroom - This class room needs to be quite small as the protagonist is in the room by him self and there needs to be a door that the protagonist will run out of.
- corridor- The corridor will be used in a close up shots but the walls need to plain colours as i don't want display work to distract from the action.
- staircase - The staircase must have a few flights as the shot will be with protagonist running down for about 0.07 secs.
- street - The street needs to be a quite road where there is not a lot of cars to help filming go smoothly.
- a secluded forest area -This area needs to have a path for the protagonist to walk along to suggest he's finally on the path to freedom. Also there need to be a lot of trees because at the end there will be lots of people hiding behind them in the mask.

For the classroom, corridor and stair case i'll be using my school for these location and for the other two i plan to go out in the next couple of days to find and take photos of the location.

Drafting and planning - Developed ideas

For the last couple of weeks now i have been creating my story board for my music video and throughout the creation i have been changing and rethinking ideas. I am more than half way through my storyboard and i have realised that the disequilibrium of the story is not shown clear enough. The disequilibrium of the story is supposed to be about a protagonist in a society that is social media media dominated, represented by the V for vendetta mask. He is trying to escape from this but is stopped at every turn. With this in mind when creating my music video story board i feel that the story could be conveyed better, so i have now included some new elements to the story. Now i have added an overseeing being that controls the people with anonymous mask through their laptop. This new leader is watching the events through their laptop through various different feeds such as cctv. I will show this new element by having quick teaser shots of this person, typing, of his hands and laptop like in this gif below;

I will also have him wear a mask that is slightly different to the standard black and white ones, here is an example below. The fact that this mask is black and gold gives of a royalty sense to the person wearing it as the gold is a regal colour, implying that the person is of a high status which he is as he is the controller of all the people.

I've said in my previous blog post that i will be now including (post) little bits of technical problem footage. By having this will suggest that the 'overseeing' person will be watching everything on his laptop and that the signal has gone. This will also interest the viewer watching the video as have little spinets of this will make them wonder what is happening.

Now with my improved ideas i can carry on with the creation of my story board.

organisation - Email to artists manger continued.

In my previous blog post i have said that I've emailed Woodkids manger, Fanny Tardy to ask permission to use his song 'Run Boy Run'. Since then i have received a reply from Tardy about the use of the song.

As you can see in the email Ms Tardy at first wants to know about my project and where it will be used, so in my reply back to her i explained that my music video is only for academic purposes. I also linked my blog in to my reply email to help her gain a better understanding in what i am planning to do as she requested to view it first but my video isn't completed yet. Thankfully she agreed to my usage of the song and now the creation of my music video can still proceed.

Drafting and planning - Story Board pt 3

I am still in the process of creating a story board for my music video (Part 1/Part 2) however i have completed another significant stage to the story board. I have now completed up to 1:42 of the music video which is about half of the song.

Organisation - Email to artists manager

As i am using the song Run Boy Run by WoodKid in my music video, i have written an email to the artists manager Fanny Tardy to ask if i am able to do this. You can see in the screen shot of the email i have explained the what i am using the song for and that its for academic purposes.

Hopefully i'll hear back from Ms Tardy so i know if ill be able to use the song for my music video.

Organisation - Footage

In my music video i plan to have a static technical problem effect and here below is an example of what i'm going to have and use in my video.

The use of this clip will be effective in my video as my video is about a person trying to 'escape reality' which is a world that is obsessed with technology and their online presence. By using this clip it helps me to suggest the fact that there is something stopping him to the audience and also reminds them of the presence of technology which is a running theme of the video.

I have got this clip off shutter stock which is a online site that has a range of different video clips you can use. I'll only be using about 5 seconds of the clip in the video and i have already planned where it will be included.

Organisation - characterisation

Characterisation

Equilibrium
The main protagonist at the start of the video I seen to be a cool, smart, hard working school kid as he is wearing clothing to represent that and is doing some work. He would be described as a popular person that has lots of friends, however is quite self obsessed and cares a lot about his online social media presence. So when in the video people are seemed to be against him, it is unexpected for him.

 Disequilibrium
During the middle of the music video the character I now seen as a anxious and worried person as now he is paranoid due to the ‘anonymous’ cult group out to get him. This will be shown through his facial expression and physicality.

Re equilibrium
At the end of the video the protagonist is now more reflective and open to a new change, as he is seen to be away from everyone and technology. He is a representation that young people can be 'free' the media word.

By doing this it will help my actor playing the character to understand what his character goes through, making his performance more believable and reflective of what i want to show in my music video.

Organisation - Props & Costs

As i have said in a pervious post i'll be using masks in my music video. I have been researching where i can buy these masks for a decent price and i have found that i can buy it online.

Here you can see that the price of one mask is £1.99 and i need about 5 masks for the video so all together that will cost me £11.94 inc postage. It says it takes up to 3 days for the masks to be delivered so i will be getting them soon before shooting the video, which will allow me to prep.

I'll also be using coloured chalk powder in the video and i have looked into how much it will cost. On amazon a pack of 6 different colours will cost £6.49 and has free delivery. The delivery says it takes up to 7 days to come. I am considering ordering two sets as i want one of them to practice with.

Another prop i said i'll be using is an Iphone which will be free as i'll be using my own phone in the music video.

Looking at these cost has been helpful for me as i can see how much this video will cost to make and also i now know where i can get my props from which will save me time meaning that i can create this music video efficiently.

Organisation - Pre production

Today in class we took sometime to create a timeline - mind map of all the things that should be completed and included in the pre production part of my video project. This has been created in chronological order for me to clearly see what needs to be done and in what order. From this list I have done/created;   Initial idea - Plot / narrative - part of a story board. So for now the main things I need to do is complete my story board which I am working on and a shot list. Creating this has been helpful as I can now refer back to this to ensure I am on track with creating my music video

Drafting and Planning - Story Board pt 2

Continuing with my creation of my story board (part 1) here is the second part to it.

This story board is a work in progress but i can already see my music video coming together, With this part now completed i can now start to plan when to film in my locations and create a call sheet,

Drafting and planning - Example of video effect

As i've said in my previous (Post) i want to use a slow motion effect in a segment of my video and here is
my testing out the effect.

This was shot on an IPhone 5s and then i edited in the slow motion effect. I wanted to test this out before making my music video to ensure that it is possible for me to do it and also i want to see if i like the look of the effect, which i do so ill definitely be using it in my music video. This has been really helpful for me as now i can in include this into my story board.

Drafting and planning - Slow motion editing

I have been looking into what editing effects i want to use in my music video and this is an example of what i want to use.

In the trailer for Insurgent from the start to 1:15 secs you can see that it goes from normal speed to slow motion back to normal speed. I think this is really effective because its another way to cut to another scene in an intersting way and it highlights to the audience a specific moment. I want to use this in my music video to cut between scenes and emulate the song.

Drafting and Planing - Story Board Pt 1

I am currently in the process of creating my story board for my music video and as i am doing second by second story board that is taking awhile i've decided to post what i have done so far.
Creating this part of the story board has really helped me think about what exactly i am doing for my music video so when i come to film it, the use of the story board will make it an easy process for me.

Organisation - Text effects

In my music video i plan to have the use of mobiles as the main protagonist in the video is reciving messages from an unknown sender. I have been looking into how this will be shown and i have found an example of this.

This clip from the Tv series Sherlock on BBC is a perfect example of how i want the messages the protagonist receives to be shown. In the clip you can see how the texts are displayed off the phone screen which has been done in editing and like how this is done because it allows the audience to be involved in the action and experience what the characters are feeling. Also how the messages pop up and then fades away is effective because it emulates how you would receive a message on a smart phone.

Drafting and planning - Pitch feedback

As i've said in my previous post that i presented a pitch of my music video to the class. After presenting the pitch i was told that the song choice and plot idea match each, also that the concept of the music video is relevant as it showcases current issues.

"What is the reason the group anonymous is targeting the main character"
- I have decided to not have a specif reason and it to be left ambiguous as the group 'anonymous' usually target people through the use of digital technology and the internet. So by having the reason unspecified allows the audience to imagine their own reason, that maybe relates to them. Also without having a reason shows how people can be subject to cyber bullying and trolls without a specific reason.

"How will you shoot this ?"
- I am still in the process of creating a detailed storyboard/shooting plan. However i know the key type of shot that will be used in the music video is a tracking shot as this will allowed the audience to experience what the protagonist is feeling throughout the video as they will be following the characters journey.

"Why are you having colour splatter in the video ?"
- having the colour splatter in the video will be a representation of how the protagonist has broke 'free' of the norms and how he's unique as the music video is about an individual  who is escaping from  a society that acts the same, that's why i have chosen for my video to be in black and white.

Receiving the feedback and questions has been really helpful as it has made me understand what are the good points of my music video and it has made me think about it in more depth.

Organisation - Costume

I've been looking into what costume the main protagonist in my video will be wearing and hers what i've decided. I want my character to be wearing trainers as this is comfortable and practical which is important as he will be running a lot in the video. Also the fact the that he will be wearing converse helps to relate to the target audience as this is a popular foot wear style among young adults. I've chosen for the main character to be wearing black skinny jeans as again this is popular fashion statement but also the colour black suggests that the protagonist is 'cool' and 'hipster' which are people who are seen to be different to everyone else, linking to the video message. A hoodie with a jacket layered on top of it is also what i'm planning the character to wear as this is a rising trend that looks current, making the music video relevant.

Drafting and planning

I've said in a previous post (Inspirations post) that i was thinking about having the use of colour splatter in my music video. I have been looking into this as i think the representation of having the colour splatter in the video will be effective because my music video is about a boy who is escaping from society who act the same, that's why i have chosen for my video to be in black and white. So by having the colour splatter it will show how he's broke 'free' of the norms and how he's unique and an individual.

This is an example of what i am thinking about doing.

I liked this because of its use of slow motion to emphasise the colours being thrown, which gives the video a nice effect. I also like the fact that close ups and extreme close ups are used which make the video more interesting to watch.

Drafting and Planning - My pitch

After collecting all my research, i have created a pitch to present to a focus group about my music video. This was really helpful as it allowed me to receive feedback on what others thought of my music video, so i can improve it further.

Organisation - Cast

I have cast who i want to play the protagonist in my music video. Jourdan Snowe will be starring in the video. I wanted cast a person who fitted into the "stereotypical teenage" category as this will relate to my target demographic. Also as my video is to do with social media, the fact that i cast Jourdan helps with this because a large amount of young people use it and mobile devices.

By me casting the video helps me with the planning aspects such as costume and helps me progress with the creation of the video.

Organisation - Props

I've been thinking about and planning what props i l'll use in my music video. The main prop that will feature in my music video is an IPhone. The mobile will be a main prop because the video is about escaping a internet troll that is taunting the protagonist, through messaging and social media.
The reason that mobile is a smart phone is because social media and picture messages need to be shown, which a smart phone can do. Also the fact that it is an Iphone is useful because this is a very popular phone that lots of people have, means that a large amount of people watching the music video can relate to the video.

Drafting and planning - Anonymous

I am currently in the process of creating the story board of my music video and i have been thinking about what ideas i want to include in the video.

My music video will be about a boy trying to escape something that he did however he is being taunted by a group of people through social media. I've decided i am going to incorporate the Anonymous group in the video.

Anonymous is a loosely associated international network of activist and hacktivist entities that describes them self as  "an Internet gathering". Their philosophy is to work together to uncover and bring justice. The group's few rules include not disclosing one's identity, not talking about the group, and not attacking media. Members commonly use the tagline "We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us."

I want to loosely include this concept in my music video as this will be the threat element the main protagonist in my video will be running away from.

Drafting and Planning - sound effects

For my video i have been thinking about the potential sound effects i may use to enhance the video further. Though i haven't got a complete story board plan i do know that part of the story is that the main protagonist in the video will be bombarded with lots of messages from technological devises.

The messages and notification will appear like this on the screen.

via GIPHY

When the messages appear on the screen there will be a notification sound effect played with it. Here are the different sound effects i may use.

These sound effects will be added when come to edit the music video.

Drafting and planning - Inspirations

I've been looking at some inspiration to help me create my music video as i want to take the aspects that i like from it and replicate it.

My first bit of inspiration comes from Sias Music video "The Greatest". I've talked about this video in a previous post. The main reason i like this video is that it solely revolves around the main star of the video and this is made clear with the fact that all the dancers dance around her and also because a tracking shot is used through the video on her.

For my video i like the idea of using a grey scale colour scheme as this was used in the original Run Boy Run music video and i think that this is the most effective colours to use for it as it gives a timeless element to the video which is fitting as the song is about running away from danger/threat/society and these are issues that are always relevant.

I also like the idea of colour splatter. Above is the music video Madeon - The city and thorough out this video you see people splattering each other with coloured powder chalk. This inspired me to think about including it my my music video. As i've said that my video will in black and white, i want the colour splatter to break this up and show the triumph of the person breaking free

These ideas i've gathered will form a basis of music video.

Drafting and planning - Music analysis

In a previous post i have look at the lyrics of the song "Run Boy Run" and what i though they mean and how the lyrics can inspire my music video concept (Previous post). Now i'm looking at the actual song it's self (instrumental version) to see what the musician is trying to express through it, in hope this will also help me with my music video.

The song starts of with four bell rings and then after that it goes into a fast paced beat heavy tune. The bells suggests some sort of an awakening/realisation to something that needs to be escaped from which is shown through the fast tempo drums as if someone was running. This heavy drum beat continues giving off the feeling of anxiousness. At around 0:30 this beat increases with a gun cocking sound which creates a senses of threat and danger. The chorus which starts at around 0:59 contrasts with the sounds from the verses and it focuses on lots of brass and string instruments which gives off a triumphant sense as if a person has overcame something. The song then repeats this format until the end where the brass and sting instruments are played through suggesting the danger from the beginning is over now and the person has won/free.

From analysing the music of the song the main themes i can gather from it is;

-Realisation
-Threat
-Fear
-Overcoming

I can use these themes to create my music video as i need to showcase some of these so my video can link to the song.

Drafting and planning - Analysis of song music video

In my previous blog post i have talked about the song i want to create a music video for and i looked into the artist and meaning of the song. (Previous post) This helped me thinking about what i want to do for my music video of the song.

Above is the official video for Run Boy Run which is a very effective video that has an original concept and a clear narrative for the audience to follow. The whole video is in black and white which is a typical convention of an alternative, also this is a trade mark thing the artist has on his videos which is highly recognisable to the audience. There's a range of camera shots used in this video which is effective because the variety of shots make the video more interesting to watch for the audience.
Close up

Medium shot

 Extreme long shot
Long shot
Low angle

All the elements of Mise en scene in this video plays apart in this successful video. The use of the young boy in uniform as the main protagonist in the video links to the lyrics "run boy run..." and makes audiences feel for him, giving them an emotional link to the video. The boy gains props and near the end he is fully armed which suggests he about to battle and has connotations to medieval times.

The fact the director contrasts normality, such as a boy in school uniform against the absurd such the nature monsters gives a surreal effect and a powerful impact to the audience.

From all the elements used in the video what i like the most is the noire colour effect and i want to use this for my music video.

Drafting and planning - Music video song

After thinking about what i could potentially do for a music video, i have now decided upon a song a want to use for my music video.

'Run Boy Run' is an alternative/indie song by Yoann Lemione who goes by the stage name Woodkid. This song was released 21 May 2012 and was his highest charting single and this song featured his album, Golden Age. The genre of Run Boy Run is chamber pop which is a sub genre of indie pop/rock which arouse in the 1990. Songs of this genre has an emphasis on melody and production, layering baroque, ornate songs with richly textured orchestral strings and horns while rejecting the traditions of grunge, electronica, and other concurrent musical movements.

"Run boy run! This world is not made for you
Run boy run! They’re trying to catch you
Run boy run! Running is a victory
Run boy run! Beauty lays behind the hills

Run boy run! The sun will be guiding you

Run boy run! They’re dying to stop you
Run boy run! This race is a prophecy
Run boy run! Break out from society

Tomorrow is another day

And you won’t have to hide away
You’ll be a man, boy!
But for now it’s time to run, it’s time to run!

Run boy run! This ride is a journey to

Run boy run! The secret inside of you
Run boy run! This race is a prophecy
Run boy run! And disappear in the trees

Tomorrow is another day

And you won’t have to hide away
You’ll be a man, boy!
But for now it’s time to run, it’s time to run!

Tomorrow is another day

And when the night fades away
You’ll be a man, boy!
But for now it’s time to run, it’s time to run!"

The lyrics of Run Boy Run is what i'm using as my stimulus for my music video idea as i this will help me create a effective video. From reading the lyrics to me the song is about a person who is struggling with fitting in and is an outcast to society. They do not want to conform to the norm even though they are being forced to, however it's going to be alright and different in the future so the person has to get through the dark times that he is facing now. After the research of the song this have given me an idea what i could do for my music video as i now know the genre and meaning and story of the song..

Research into similar products - Camera work

I've been looking into camera work and some techniques i could use to film my music video. I've looked at another Sia video 'Chandelier' as the way it's been shot is, in my opinion really effective. In this music video and in Sia's other music video 'The Greatest' that i talked about in a previous post       (Sia - The Greatest) both uses a continuous tracking shot. The tracking shot follows the lead dancer through the music as she tells a story through expressive dance, this is good because it allows the audience to follow this story and the journey the character goes through.

I like the use of this shot especially as it gives a personal and intimate sense to the video as the star of the video is solely being focused on. I want to use tracking shots in my music video because i also want my star to be the main focus and i want the audience to have a personal view to the journey my character is going through.

Research into similar products - Colour scheme

This music video 'Sia - The Greatest' is a really a good video because of the use of its colour scheme. In this video the colour and the tone is a grey scale and this is used throughout. The music video was created to pay tribute to the Orlando shootings in America back in June 2016, so the use of the dark colours helps highlight the serious message the video is trying to convey and shows the dark times the world went through. Also in the video the only use of bright colour is when the lead dancer smears the LGBT rainbow flag on her face. This further emphasises the focus of the video, which is to pay homage to the community.

This videos effective use of its colour scheme is something i want to also do with my music video because after looking at Sia's video it has made me understand how a colour scheme can convey a meaning effortlessly.

Research into similar products - Editing

Beyonces video 'Hold Up' is a good example of a music video that uses editing effects that help aid the overall video. In the music video slow motion effect is used near enough through out the video. The use of the slow motion make the audience focus on the star of the video which is Beyonce and reminds them the fact that video is hers. Also as the song is about her fining out and ending a cheating relationship, the use of the slow motion is really effective as it contrasts with her feelings and what she is doing in the video. You can see she is smashing up things with a baseball bat because of what she has found out how ever the editing effect makes her seem calm and that she thinks what she is doing is normal.

By looking at this video it has shown me the importance of how editing effects can emphasise a videos message. So when i come to create my music video i'll need to think about how i can incorporate effects.

Research into similar products

I've been looking into music video concept ideas as this is a very important part in creating a successful video. 'Where Is The Love' by The Black Eyed Peas is a good example of this as the music video has a clear narrative that relates to the lyrics of the song. The song was released in 2002 and the main premise of the video is about highlighting the effects of war, violence, racism and discrimination on people and society.

The concept of the video can be clearly understood throughout the music video, an example of this is through the use of the poster with the red question mark that is shown at various points of the video. The question mark relates to the lyrics of the song and the title 'Where Is The Love' and the fact that is getting posted all round the city suggests that they are trying to as society this question. This is effective as it reminds the audience of the videos message and makes the music video memorable. The main stars of the video 'The Black Eyed Peas' are shown to be standing up to the issues that are raised which links to the fact that they wrote this song and they want these issues to be eradicated.

This music video sends out a clear message to the audience due to its clear concept. When i come to create a music video i will ensure that i have planned and thought of my music videos concept in order for it to be effective.

Research into similar products - Use of Lighting

This is the trailer for the film 'Donnie Darko'. The reason why i like this trailer is because of the effective use of lighting. At the beginning of the trailer high key lighting is used as the main character of the trailer walks out of the bus,  this highlights him and tells the audience he's a key figure as the light shining behind him gives him a god like complex. The fact that the scenes with high key lighting are contrasted with scenes with low key lighting gives a sense of good verses evil and reflects the characters mental state, giving the audience an insight to the characters personality and the films plot line.

By looking at this film trailer it has giving me an understanding of the fact that the lighting used in a video can help show a plot which gives the audience a better understanding of the video making them want to watch him.

Research into a Potential target audience

This music video by Willow Smith is an example of a video with a specific target audience. 'Whip My Hair' is the debut track from Willow Smith that has currently around 170 million views. The main success to the video is the fact that the song is kid friendly but can appeal to a range of music listeners due to the fact that it has a catchy tune. The use of the bright vivid colours throughout the video makes it appealing to a younger generation and gives the video a sense of 'fun'. Also by having all the background dancers/actors as young people reinforces the fact the video is aimed to a young audience. The video is set in a school and you see Willow perform in different parts of the school is effective as school is where young people go so the young people that are viewing this video can relate to it.

Looking at this video has been helpful as it has made think about the different elements in order to create an effective video that will relate to the specific demographic i am aiming for.

Drafting and planning - Re editing a short film

Today in lesson i was set the task of re editing a short film to give it a new narrative and add sound effects to it. I was first shown how insert sound effects into the program and then i began editing the footage. once I re edited the film i added the appropriate sound effect that i thought best complimented the video. By doing this task it has given me a better understanding on how sound effects aid a video and make interesting for audiences. Also now i know how to use the software, i can now start to plan some of the features i may want to use for when i come to create a video

I've recently looked at Justin Biebers song 'Where are you now' ft Skrillex. This video follows the typical conventions from the pop genre as the video solely focuses on the main artist. As you can see throughout the video the camera is on Justin while there are after effects edited on and around him. The fact that he is the focal point of the whole video makes it clear to the audience that he is the star as he is the main focus. Also this is what pop stars like to do as their popularity   Comes from their image.

The effects used in this video is something that is very effective and original. As you can see form the music video the lyrics of the songs are all around him in the video which is good as it makes the song more memorable to the audience. The fact that the editing and cuts in the video are fast paced links to how the song is meaning that the synchronicity between the song and video has been done effectively.

For my music video I can take an influence from the fact that the artist is the main focal point as in my video I will need a character for the audience to have someone to identify with. Also I can take an influence from the editing as my self as audience I found this visually interesting so I could potentially replicate some of it, for example the colour changes.

Research into similar products - Digipack Convention of back cover

Here are two music albums back cover. Usually the colour scheme on the back cover is the same to keep the continuity of the theme of the album the same. The bar code is featured on the back on an album, usually in a corner to allow the album to be scanned when bought. The track list is featured on the back so when someone wants to buy it the know what song feature on it first. The information of the produces and record label is on the back as this is not really important informant and this is also featured in small font. On the back you may see either the name of the artist or a photo of the artist. This is to remind the audience who's album's it is. On the side you can see the side bar with the artists name on it and this is for when the album is stacked on a shelf, so you can identify it easily.

Looking at these back covers had taught me what i should feature on mine when i came to create one

Research into similar products - Digipak conventions of front cover

This is the front cover of Lana Del Rey's album Born To Die. On this front cover there is only the album artist on it making her the sole focus and shows how this album is hers. The use of direct address is effective as its as if she is looking at the audience, get the audiences attention as it sends off a powerful vibe. The simplicity of the cover also helps to put focus of the star and makes the album look classy and professional, which contrasts with the fact that she is an indie artist and this make the cover interesting.

The text on the cover is large and in bold which stands out however it still doesn't distract from the the artist as the text is behind her head. The album title isn't as prominent as its in a pale blue and in a smaller font size but it is in the foreground, in front of the image of the artist.

The colour scheme of this colour is also effective as its mainly white and blue, which is simple and also help to put focus on the artist as though she is wearing a white top her hair is a contrasting colour,

After looking at this album front cover it had given me ideas on what to include on mine as the conventions used on this are effective.

Drafting and planning - Preliminary Task

For our preliminary task we got to experiment with different camera and editing techniques to create a mini sort film to help us when we come to create our main project.

The four techniques i used to film this video was match on action action, 180 degree rule, tracking and panning.

The 180 degree rule that was used during the conversation is a basic guideline regarding the           on-screen spatial relationship between a character and another character or object within a scene.
The match on action that was used in the bit where the girl opens the door and goes through it is the editing techniques where the editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shot's action.

The use of the tracking allows the audience to follow the character and the story and sets the scene and location of the action.

The panning shot introduces the surroundings which was a class room and sets the narrative on the scene.

This exercise was really helpful as it has intorduced me to all the different camera techniques and how to use them. So when i come to create my video i can reflect on what i've learnt creating this mini scene.

Research into similar products- Music video genre

This music video is an example of an RnB/Hip-Hop music video.

50 Cent - Candy Shop Ft. Olivia is a RnB/Hip Hop video that was realised back in 2005. RnB/Hip Hop is a quite similar to pop music videos as they also incorporate bright colours. Normally RnB/Hip-Hop videos are set in clubs, parties and mansions to highlight their extravagant and 'ideal' lifestyle. This is also highlighted by the excessive 'bling' and branded clothing they wear. Also in RnB/Hip-Hop videos there's usually lots of attractive women which reflects the nature of the lyrics and meaning of the song. By looking at this video and its conventions i now know what to include if i were to create this genre of music video and even if i don't i still can incorporate elements of this genre.

Research into similar products- Music genes Rock

In my previous post i said i was researching the typical conventions of genres of music video.

The Metallica; Hardwired rock song has a lot of typical traits of a rock music video. Firstly the video is in black and white with low key light which gives of a edgy element and a mysterious atmosphere. The hard fast cuts used gives of a manic sense to the video which reflects the style of the music. The mise en scene such as props also is s typical convention of a rock music video as there's electric guitars and drum kits. This is effective because rock songs feature these instruments in their songs.

By looking at this video and understanding the different conventions used i can use this to help me influence my music video.
